Templates are pre-designed files that you or somebody else (such as Microsoft) generates to use as a pattern for a job. The template could be to get a business card, brochure, resume, demonstration. . .the list continues. Regardless of the purpose, templates offer the design consistency which any organization (or individual) needs to look professional. (you could also find templates for Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs, but in this article we’re focusing on Microsoft Word.)
The template contains a particular layout, style, layout and, sometimes, text and fields that are common to each use of that template. Some templates are so complete (for instance, business cards), you merely have to change somebody’s name, contact number, and email address. Others, like business reports or brochures, could demand that everything is altered except the design and layout.
Once you create a template, then you can use it over and over. Remember that while you open a template to initiate a job, you save the project as another file type, such as the basic .docx Word structure, for editing, sharing, printing, and more. The template file stays the same, unless or until you wish to alter it (more on this later).
Custom templates can be as simple or complex as needed. For instance, you may create a template for your company’s newsletter, posters for a seminar, or invitations for corporate events. You could also produce interactive templates to load the Intranet, so others may fill in the blanks to print their own envelopes and letterhead, as an example.
To begin with, create a document–design and format , add images and photographs. When it’s interactive, then select Controls from the Developer tab and create custom input fields for user interaction.
Some templates use interactive controls for user input. By way of instance, imagine that once a month, the branch managers, assistant managers, and loan originators of a large banking institution have a meeting at one of the 12 branches. It’s your helper’s task to email the date, time, location, speakers, topics, and the agenda to every attendee. Rather than have that individual retype the information at a regular template, you may create a template in which choices can be chosen from a list.
Programs let you configure all of the relevant settings you want pre-applied to files –webpage layout, styles, formatting, tabs, boilerplate text, etc. You can then easily create a new file based on that template.
After you save a document as a template, you may then use that template to create new files. Those new files include all of the text (and images, and other content) that the template contains. They also have all the exact same page layout settings, sections, and styles as the template. Templates can save a lot of time when you’re creating multiple documents which need to have a consistent design, format, and some boilerplate text.
