Templates are pre-designed documents that you or someone else (such as Microsoft) creates to use as a pattern for a project. The template may be for a business card, brochure, resume, presentation. . .the list continues. Regardless of the purpose, templates provide the design consistency that any company (or individual) needs to look professional. (you could also find templates for Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications, but in this article we’re focusing on Microsoft Word.)
The template includes a particular layout, design, design and, occasionally, fields and text which are common to every use of that template. Some templates are really complete (for instance, business cards), you merely have to change somebody’s name, contact number, and email address. Others, like company reports or brochures, could require that everything is altered except the design and layout.
Once you create a template, you can use it repeatedly. Remember that while you open a template to initiate a project, you save the job as another file type, like the simple .docx Word format, for editing, printing, sharing, and more. The template file remains the same, unless or until you want to change it (more on this later).
Customized templates can be as simple or complex as needed. For instance, you may create a template for your company’s newsletter, posters for a conference, or even invitations for corporate occasions. You can also produce interactive templates to load on the Intranet, so others may fill in the blanks to publish their own envelopes and letterhead, for instance.
To begin with, create a record –layout and format it, add images and photos. When it’s interactive, select Controls in the Developer tab and make custom input fields for user interaction.
Some templates utilize interactive controls for user input. For example, imagine that after a month, the branch managers, assistant managers, and loan originators of a large banking institution have a meeting at one of the 12 branches. It is your assistant’s task to email the date, time, location, speakers, themes, and agenda to each attendee. Rather than have that individual retype the data at a regular template, you may create a template in which choices can be selected from a listing.
Templates let you configure all of the applicable settings you want pre-applied to documents–page layout, styles, formatting, tabs, boilerplate text, and so on. You may then easily create a new document based on that template.
After you save a document as a template, then you can then use that template to create new files. Those new documents contain all of the text (and images( and other articles ) that the template contains. They also have all the same page layout settings, sections, and styles as the template. Templates can save a great deal of time when you’re creating multiple documents which have to get a consistent layout, format, and some boilerplate text.
