Templates are pre-designed documents that you or someone else (such as Microsoft) creates to use as a pattern for a job. The template may be for a business card, brochure, resume, demonstration. . .the list continues. Irrespective of the purpose, templates offer the plan consistency which any company (or individual) needs to appear professional. (You can also find templates for Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications, but in this article we’re focusing on Microsoft Word.)
The template contains a specific design, design, design and, sometimes, fields and text that are common to every use of the template. Some templates are so complete (such as business cards), you only need to alter somebody’s name, phone number, and email address. Others, such as business reports or brochures, could demand that everything is altered except the layout and design.
Once you make a template, then you can use it repeatedly. Bear in mind that while you open a template to start a job, you save the project as a different file type, like the basic .docx Word format, for editing, printing, sharing, and more. The template file stays the same, unless or until you wish to alter it (more on this later).
Customized templates can be as straightforward or complex as needed. For example, you might create a template for your company’s newsletter, posters for a seminar, or invitations for corporate occasions. You can even create interactive templates to load on the Intranet, so others may fill in the blanks to print their own envelopes and letterhead, as an example.
To begin with, create a document–layout and format , add graphics and photographs. If it’s interactive, select Controls from the Developer tab and make custom input fields for user interaction.
Some templates utilize interactive controls for user input. For example, imagine that once a month, the division managers, assistant managers, and loan originators of a large banking institution have a meeting at one of the 12 branches. It is your assistant’s job to email the date, time, place, speakers, topics, and agenda to each attendee. Instead of having that person retype the data at a normal template, you can make a template where choices can be selected from a listing.
Programs allow you to configure all the applicable settings you need pre-applied to documents–webpage design, styles, formatting, tabs, boilerplate text, and so on. You may then easily create a new document based on that template.
When you save a document as a template, you may then use that template to make new files. Those new files include all of the text (and images( and other content) that the template contains. They also have all the exact same page layout settings, segments, and styles as the template. Templates can save you a lot of time when you’re creating numerous documents that have to get a consistent design, format, and some boilerplate text.
